Belo Horizonte is a city in Brazil in the state of Minas Gerais. It means Beautiful Horizon in Portugese. It is the third largest city of Brazil and has gotten its name for the beautiful view of mountains seen within its borders. It is generally surrounded by mountains and is built on numerous hills. It is a century old city built in the early 1980s and was one of the first planned cities of Brazil. Although it is not a famous destination for its lack of beaches and exotic parties, Belo Horizonte has its own city charm.

It is a busy place with all the cosmopolitan streets, fine restaurants, bustling market stalls, couple of soccer fields, variety of bars, culturally packed museums, and city concerts. Architecturally, it boasts of contrasting sights of the classical and contemporary buildings. Despite being a city of establishments it has several parks. One of it is “Parque das Mangabeiras” which provides a good view of the cityscape. The Tancredo Neves or Confins International Airport is also located on this city. This airport is said to be the largest and busiest airport of Minas Gerais. And is comparatively the best equipped airport in Latin America.

This city is becoming famous for its bars. And is already called the Bar capital of Brazil. The city has a busy nightlife with a variety of nightclubs and bars to choose from. To date they have 12,000 bars within the city. These bars are actually botecos. Botecos are a kind of neighborhood bars where different generations sit down and socialize. Often informal meals are done in botecos. There is a highlight of activity not to be missed out; including the Annual Comida di Buteco competition in April. This is where the top botecos compete for categories such as best service, hygiene, appetizer, and many more. In ordinary days, visiting these bars is already a treat. Their variety, styles, and quirky designs are worth seeing and experiencing. Some bars are also available in day time. In Belo Horizonte there’s a famous saying “Não tem mares, tem bares” which translates to “There are no seas, thus there are bars.”

Travelling around Belo Horizonte is better on foot because of its complicated one-way route system. The main reference point of Belo Horizonte is its inner ring road called the Avenida do Contorno which is within a grid pattern or roads. And the best place to see chic finds; is to visit Savassi where there are boutiques, restaurants, and nightlife.

Ever since the location of what is now known as the city of Monteria, Colombia was discovered and settled by Spanish explorers, the city has been nicknamed The Pearl of River Sinu or La Perla del Sinu to the locals. The city is probably one of the most diverse cities in the country in terms of culture and economic activity. The city’s unique vibe is a result of the blend between Spanish settlers, African plantation workers, Zenu Indians and Arab migrants. This blend led to the emergence of a national icon, the Vueltiao hat and local Porro folklore music.

Its strategic location along the Sinu River gave rise to the middle class lifestyle enjoyed by the city’s residents whose livelihood mostly depend on cotton farming and cattle ranching. Many of the cattle farms and ranches around Monteria,Colombia promote the prestige of the local cattle industry by celebrating an annual Livestock Show and festival every June.

In recent years, Monteria, Colombia has enjoyed an urban renewal drive which led to the creation of the First Avenue park along the banks of the Sinu River. Visitors to the city can enjoy the scenic walkways along the length of the park that lead to colorfully landscaped gardens of varying designs, quiet footpaths, refreshing cycling paths and charming restaurants. The First Avenue Park is open twenty-four hours a day and is illuminated at night with colorful street lights that enhance the area’s tropical atmosphere. Another park which is present in the city is called the Simon Bolivar Park which serves as a refuge for wild monkeys and sloths.

Omagh in Northern Ireland is one of the country’s most beautiful and historical cities. There are many events and activities available in this city for visiting tourists to enjoy. Some of these yearly activities include Folk in the Park (September) and Midsummer Carnival (June).

The Ulster American Folk Park is a historical site and museum that gives the tourists a view of how Omagh was like in the past. The culture and preferences of the native settlers are well documented through artifacts and gathered materials.

Omagh is situated where the two rivers Drumragh and Camowen meet. This junction formed Strule, an important structure in the county. It is one of the oldest towns in Ireland, dating back to its origins in 792 AD.

Tourist attractions include the Ulster American Folk Park, an inclusive cottage for heritage purposes. The structure of the park is made for tourists, with the open-air museum. The museum tells the story of the journey of the Irish explorers to America, containing large renderings of Easter, Christmas and Halloween events. A Bluegrass Festival is also held everyday. Another park, the Gortin Glens Forest Park, is located north of Omagh. This park includes deer enclosures as the main attraction and waterfalls and natural lakes for a stress-free stroll. In 2007, a new attraction opened in the town of Omagh. For those interested, this can be seen between the river Strule and the High Street. The Omagh Leisure Complex can cater to their craving for physical activities with the presence of a leisure centre, boating pond and cycle paths. It is the perfect spot to bond with the family.

Discover the wonders held by Kampala in Uganda. This central city of Uganda was initially built on seven hills. The number of hills, however, has increased as the landscape of the city changed. In this hilly city, you will find a number of suburbs housing various places of notable cultural interest. One of the hills of Kampala, the Kololo Hill holds the Uganda Museum. Kololo Hill is known as the highest hill in Kampala. Kampala is also known for being the locale for one of the seven Baha’i Houses of Worship known throughout the entire world. This temple sits atop the Kikaya Hill. Towards the western part of Kampala, you can find the palace of the King of Buganda. Buganda is written down in history as one of Africa’s oldest kingdoms. It was the King of Buganda who chose the rolling hills to be named as Kampala and to be used as his hunting grounds. Today, a visit to Uganda will not be complete without a glimpse of Kampala’s historical treasures to be found in famous landmarks like the Kasubi tombs, the old Kampala mosque, the cathedrals of Namirembe and Rubaga.

The climate in Kampala is generally warm and dry. This outdoor-friendly weather creates the perfect backdrop for a stroll around the city. You can also try a ride on the boda-bodas, the local motorcycle transportation, and weave through rush hour traffic with ease. This, however, should not be done by those that are faint of heart since some of these boda-bodas can be quite dangerous as they are often poorly maintained. The city bus service might be a better option for those who want to explore other areas in metropolitan Kampala. As night falls, the lights of Kampala’s restaurants, shopping centers, and casinos welcome tourists and locals alike for a relaxing cap to their busy days. The most popular casinos in Kampala are the Kampala Casino, the Mayfair Casino, and the Casino Simba which is located right at the heart of the Garden City Shopping Center.

Lech

Skiing on a scenic day in Lech Austria.

Most average tourists have probably not heard of Lech, Austria – and with good reason. This place is geographically secluded at a high altitude of almost one thousand five hundred kilometers in the Bludenz District of the Alpine region and is thinly populated with just a little over one thousand four hundred residents spread thinly over a territory of just 90 square kilometers.

In spite of its seemingly insignificant profile on the world tourism map, Lech, Austria has gained quite a reputation as a highly exclusive ski resort catering to an ultra-high income clientele consisting of Hollywood celebrities such as Tom Cruise, and members of European royal families such as Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and the late Princess Diana of Great Britain. This town’s exclusivity became more affirmed when it was selected as a backdrop setting for movies such as “Bridget Jones Diary 2.”

The winter ski season is understandably the time of year when the facilities in the town are most in demand. Travelers during this season usually do the following: strolling on winter wonderland trails to visiting rural chapels in the area, engage in high-energy cross country skiing, enjoy leisurely horse drawn sleigh rides, execute artistic moves on ice skating rinks, and bask in the rush of toboggan runs.

In contrast, every summer in Lech, Austria heralds the arrival of quieter times. The fewer number of travelers who go to the area are fortunate to take advantage of therapeutic services offered by health and fitness facilities, especially during summer. The town assumes a more authentic and traditional feel during this time of the year by celebrating village life with intimate festivals. These events are perfect opportunities for summer tourists to share in the true-to-life experiences of local residents. Additionally, there are many hiking tours along flowery mountainside meadows, alpine sports programs and even golf lessons that are offered, making every summer an equally rewarding yet more tranquil season to visit the region.

Lech truly preserves its exclusivity all year round with all the activities, services and amenities that local establishments offer with great pride.
