Banská Bystrica

Banska Bystrica can be found at the central part of Slovakia and this is actually one of its largest cities. The Slovak architecture is proudly reflected at its majestic town centre, which is a walking zone. Being one of the largest cities also mean that Banska Bystrica is a key city in Slovakia. The location of this city is very idyllic as it is on the Hron River that can be found at the long and broad valley, which is surrounded by mountain chains such as the Kremnica Mountains, the Velká Fatra and the Low Tatras.

The city has 81,281 inhabitants and is the sixth most populous municipality in all Slovakia. Due to its location in the North Temperate Zone, Banská Bystrica has a continental climate and it experiences four different seasons, which are distinguished by hot summers and cold to snowy winter seasons.

There are many places to see and visit in this city. Make sure that you spend time looking at these various spots.

The City Castle is said to be its oldest part and this can be found at the edge of the SNP Square. It used to be the city’s administrative center and it served to protect the treasury of the king.

Be amazed at the architecture and style of the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. This has features of the Romanesque and Gothic styles and has very highly appreciated Gothic altars and sculptures.
