Rafting on Jamaican rivers is another adventure you should add in your long list of things you should do and places to visit. It is definitely a unique and exotic getaway to soothe and relax your ever stressed nerves. The new experience will add life to the usual monotony of sight seeing you do whenever you visit and tour different places.

If you would like to try a new river adventure in Jamaica, you should go for Martha Brae rafting. Rafting in the Martha Brae is unique because the locals use thirty feet bamboo rafts with seats also made of bamboos to tour visitors in a three mile ride. You will surely enjoy the river adventure because of the native feel of the bamboo raft and the views of the river banks.

The river is just one of the many options you have when you go to Jamaica. But when you have already stayed in resorts or hotels in Ocho Rios or Montego Bay, a Martha Brae river visit is simply hard to miss. Many tourists are intrigued by the tales and legends surrounding Martha Brae. According to the legends and what the locals know, there was once a witch who was captured by the Spanish conquistadores because she apparently knew the place where the treasures and gold were hidden. The witch led the Spanish soldiers to a cave where she left them and used her powers so that the river engulfed them and eventually killed them. After this, the witch changed the course of the river so that no person will eventually be killed by their greed for the treasure.

If you are interested to experience the Martha Brae rafting adventure, it is highly recommended that you take the river tour with a special someone. The tranquility and romantic mood of the place will make the two of you even closer. Try the adventure when you visit Jamaica and you surely would not regret the experience.

The US Virgin Islands lies two hours from Miami, making it a place to experience the Caribbean without having to take a long flight and spending a lot of money. The US Virgin Islands are composed of three islands—St. Crois, St. Tjomas, and St. John. Each island has a distinct character. For example, St. Croix is a quiet, laidback place, while St. Thomas is full of activity. St. John, on the other hand, promises a memorable eco-trip experience.

Trunk Bay, located on the shores of St. John and part of the National Park, is just one of the US Virgin Islands’ world-class beaches. In fact, Trunk Bay is considered among the most-photographed shorelines n the world. It has a strip of sand that juts out of the coast, giving it a heart-shaped edge. It is named after the Leatherback turtle, which is locally referred to as Trunkschildpatt. To get to Trunk Bay, you will have to pay an entrance fee. But the experience that lies ahead is priceless, as they usually say.

What to do in Trunk Bay? The sea features a snorkel trail that even kids can explore. Aside from the schools of colorful fish that are waiting to be discovered underneath, the trail also gives snorkeling an educational twist. You will find signs underneath, giving you information about the fish. After snorkeling, you can relax underneath the rustling leaves of the palm trees while eating a delicious snack.

Concerned about safety? There is no reason to be, because lifeguards man the bay 24/7. A snorkel rental shop, a gift shop, phone lines and picnic huts are also set up for visitors’ convenience.

The Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca is a famous historical fortress built on the coast of Santiago de Cuba. It has been appointed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1997, representing one of the best preserved and perfect examples of a Spanish-American military structure. The fortress was built in the 17th century as ordered by Spanish King Philip II for the city’s protection against roaming pirates. Juan Bautista Antonelli, an Italian military engineer, designed the fortress’ unique structure. It was expanded in the 1638 under Governor Pedro de la Roca and further reconstructed in the years that followed.

The unique design of Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca is intended for the steep side of the fortress’ location. When on top, the coast and other small islands can be seen which is very fulfilling for the eyes. Walking inside the fortress provides an appreciation of ancient architecture and an individual can feel what life was like in early times. It was built to protect against pirates, so there are many terraces, defensive walls and bulwarks constructed adding to the fortress’ magnificent design. In the 18th century, some of the fortress parts were used as a prison for political threats. These parts are The Rock or La Roca and The Star or La Estrella. In the early 20th century, The Rock has been damaged but successfully restored by Francisco Prat Puig. Currently, the fortress’ beauty is fully restored and truly rewarding.

Have an appreciation of the ancient infrastructures with a trip at Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca. Bus trips are available for tourists but it can also be reached through a taxi for a little higher price. Arrival of tourists is in highest number during summer and this is the best time of visiting it because the weather is good. Have a trip to this famous fortress and appreciate its rich history.

Tourists who are into island hopping should include the Devil’s Island as one of their destination areas. Although some people might feel a bit off about the area’s name, the Devil’s Island offers many things that make it a heavenly spot.

The Devil’s Island boasts a rocky island terrain yet covered by a forest of palm trees which makes it a little resort island. Besides its geophysical attributes, the site is also notable for its historical background. It was once use as an exile island for the prisoners during the time of Emperor Napoleon III. Since then, the people dubbed it as the “bagne de Cayenne” in France, which indeed translates to Devil’ Island. Its location is adjacent to French Guiana, a country in South America that is a territory of France. The inmates before ranged from simple people, to the most wanted thieves and blacklisted politicians.

Fortunately, it is not currently used as an exile island. It is inhabited by a small number of people. Everything here is well taken care of. The houses where the inmates lived or stayed are kept intact. Roads and other utilities remain untouched as of late. These make it a perfect place for getting in touch with nature especially if the visitors are into camping.

Besides the history, tourists will also be able to observe the wildlife that is visible in almost the whole island. Also, people here practice rituals and traditions that date back to the period where the first emancipated inhabitants of the island permanently settled.

The Devil’s Island is one example of the few places or tourist spots that should not be judged because of its name alone. Its beauty and strategic location in the Caribbean/South America region surely make up for its intriguing name.

The Caribbean is home to many spectacular tourist spots that are worth visiting, especially for tourists that are into island hopping. Haiti, which is geographically the half-brother of the Dominican Republic, boasts a particular spot that just might be one of the most sought-after destination areas in the future – the Citadelle Laferrière.

The Citadelle Laferrière, also known simply as Citadelle, is a spot situated at the top of a mountain in the north of Haiti. It is recognized as the largest fortress in the continent of the Americas and is also a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site. This tourist spot has become the face of Haiti. Both history and geography have something to say with the site’s massive tourism success.

The mountaintop fortress came to existence when the people who lived there in the 1800s build it as a part of their fortification system which prevented the French people to further infiltrate the lands of Haiti. The fortress, moreover, served as a lookout for those colonizers that would like to change much of Haiti’s culture and traditions, not to mention the possibility of the Haiti citizens to be under the rule of a sinister king or emperor.

Most of the offensive and defensive materials and weapons that were used during the colonization era are still present in the area. Although the citadel itself can be explored by visitors, a small fee may be asked for the area’s maintenance and further development.

Moreover, walking is not a good option since the citadel is an uphill spot. Renting a horse is advised so that people can take quality pictures and record movies without being tired of going up and down in between spots and places.

There is no doubt Haiti became a hot spot for colonizers before. The beauty of the island and its attractions are absolutely sights to behold.

Dunn’s River Falls is a major tourist attraction in the Caribbean. This waterfall is located near Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It is always included in the list of the best waterfalls in the world. Dunn’s River Falls is one of the few waterfalls that directly enter a sea. Aside from Dunn’s river, there are three other must see rivers. They are the Cave River, Turtle River, and Roaring River. These four rivers are well-known for the rapid, clear, flowing water passing through a waterfall and ending directly into the vast Caribbean Sea.

The Spaniards gave the name “Las Choleras” to the area because of its springs and waterfalls. It is believed that the battle of “Las Choleras” in 1657 was fought to have the rights over the area. The British won over the Spaniards and they started developing the area.

The area is perfect mixture of modern and natural beauty. Dunn’s River Falls is surrounded by lush vegetation, perfect for just having fun and relaxing. There are already several resorts around the area offering different activities for the tourists. One famous tourist activity is climbing the falls with or without tour guides. There are hidden hot springs beneath the caves. The sun-filled Caribbean beach never fails to awe tourists.

Souvenirs are available at the craft shop where they sell locally made woodcarvings and other art worth taking home. The cafeteria serves palatable dishes and you can just sit at the park and do your own cooking. Special occasions like weddings are celebrated in the midst of this majestic place. At night, the live music will make you want to dance.

The Dunn’s River Falls and park is a sure hit to all the nature-loving, and adventure oriented individuals and families. So if you are into adventure or just simply into relaxation, then Dunn’s River Falls is the perfect place to go.

The city of Havana originated during the year 1519, along with the prosperity of Galleon trade. The city is located near the bay, so the treasures of Spanish Galleon ships were continuously brought in there. Because of this, the city prospered and many infrastructures were built in neoclassic and baroque style. These structures have been well, preserved making Old Havana a trip to the ancient world.

Old Havana is famous for its old fortresses, churches and buildings which are as follows:

* There are four old fortresses which still stand nowadays. These are the Castillo Los Tres Reyes Del Morro, La Cabaña, San Salvador de la Punta and Castillo de la Real Fuerza. La Cabaña is the most famous above all because of its magnificent structure.

* The Plaza de Armas is an open space or square built initially for military ceremonies. Currently, this is where tourists stay for a wide view of the old city.

* The Gran Teatro de la Habana, also known as the Great Theater of Havana, is well-known for the performances of National Opera and National Ballet of Cuba.

* The Museum of the Revolution is famous for its artifacts from the rich history of Havana.

An interconnection of small islands, Bermuda boasts of its quasi-tropical climate that is suitable for touring around the twenty one mile long island which is a self governing British overseas territory. Although located in near North America, the influence of British rule and the implementation of rules and regulations similar to the British government are very apparent. In total, Bermuda is composed of one city and one town that are both officially considered as incorporated municipalities. Moreover, there are also two additional municipalities present in the island.

The nine parishes that divide the island hold vital attractions to both tourists and also to the locals of Bermuda. These nine different parishes all show the different faces of Bermuda including its rich history and its present developments. St. George Town is one attraction that you should not miss when visiting Bermuda since it is considered one of the oldest heritage sites by UNESCO. The well preserved architecture and the layout of the town with winding streets and cobbled plazas will make you feel as if you’ve travelled back to time.

The Bermudan dollar is the island’s currency and its value is the same as the US Dollar. Both the US and Bermudan dollars are widely accepted in the island so there will be less hassle when it comes to making purchases.

If you want to go shop and find items that are unique or name brand, the Front Street in Hamilton is the place to go. The place is easily accessible by foot and you won’t have any difficulty walking around the stores and finding unique and interesting items. Due to the islands quasi-tropical climate, having a bottle of water is essential when taking a tour during the day where it might get quite hot for you.

Measuring just eight and a half miles long, Virgin Gorda is the 3rd largest island in the British Virgin Islands and the 2nd most populated. Its location is roughly eighteen degrees, forty-eight minutes north, and sixty-four degrees, thirty minutes west. Its area covers about eight square miles or twenty-one square kilometres. It is believed that Christopher Columbus gave the name “The Fat Virgin” to the island for the reason that its outline on the horizon seems like a fat lady reclined on her side.

Virgin Gorda’s main town is the Spanish Town, which is located on the southwest area of the island. The island is surrounded by a lot of deserted beaches and by mid-morning, the sun worshippers will populate either, Handsome Bay, Big Trunk Bay, or Savannah Bay. Virgin Gorda’s pace of life is rather slow. However, if you prefer not to spend your whole day on the beach, there are many other things to do. You can travel around The Baths, where massive rocks look as if they have been arranged by a good-natured giant in order to create a multitude of boulder pools, furtive beaches, and trail ways. This unique geologic arrangement found on the southern tip of the island is what makes the Virgin Gorda one of the British Virgin Islands’ main tourist attractions. You can have a stopover at the Copper Mine placing guard alongside the blue Atlantic. Or simply spend your morning at a restaurant on a hillside cooled by mild breezes while you look at the ferries crossing the North Sound way below.

Spectacular slopes sink from the Gorda Peak into the turquoise streams way below. Not a lot of islands can provide the variety of elite resorts. There are even some resorts that are only reachable by boat.
