For many people that think of Africa, what comes to mind is a wide expanse of grassland where elephants, antelopes, zebras, and other wild animals roam freely which is a good description of Chelinda, Malawi.

Chelinda, Malawi is a place that is located in the middle of Nyika Plateau. When you go to the plateau, you will see an endless stretch of grassland filled with wild orchids. You will also see a variety of wild African animals that you usually see in zoos like elephants, antelopes, zebras, hyenas, leopards, and several hundreds of bird species. It is truly a treasure trove of flora and fauna.

Aside from experiencing Malawi at its finest, you will also be comfortable during your stay because the place offers accommodations in the form of chalets and lodges. You will have a bedroom, small kitchen, dining room, and bathroom in the middle of the plateau. You can also eat great meals at the restaurant and unwind at the bar. It is very nice to wake up and see the beautiful Nyika Plateau and to eat while being surrounded by colourful flowers and roaming wild animals.

As can be expected, you can do a lot of nature-related activities in Chelinda Camp like bird watching, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and safaris on horseback. You should not miss any of these activities because you will not experience anything like these in the Western city or town where you live.

Aside from the capital city of Lilongwe in Malawi, the country definitely has some other cities that offer the same tourism excitement for those travelers who like to enjoy what Africa has. One of these places is Zomba.
The defining feature of this place, aside from the warm welcomes of the people in the area, would have to be the Zomba Plateau.

The Zomba Plateau can be approached by foot, especially if the tourists are eager to find out the details that make up this wonderful place. With thick forest and clean streams of water that runs across the grassland, tourists will definitely feel this place is the closest to what they look for in getting close with nature.

The majority of the plateau area is being managed by the Department of Forestry in Malawi. They make sure that the area is well-kept from opposing forces like the over development.

Animals also roam the area, which is a nice thing since the place itself is a haven for wildlife.

Tourists will definitely enjoy staying in Zomba, especially if their purpose is to relax and enjoy their free time away from the bustling life in the city.

If you want to experience African safari and see different species of animals that you can only see in the zoo, you should visit Kasungu National Park, Malawi. This place is perfect if you want to see wild animals and birds freely carrying out their daily activities.

There are several species of wild African animals that you can find in Kasungu National Park, Malawi. You can see elephants, zebras, antelopes, leopards, lions, buffalos, hippos, hyenas, and many other African fauna that you might have never heard of like kudu, puku, and duiker, to just name a few.

The park was once popular for its vast number of elephants about three decades ago. Before, the park had 1500-2000 elephants. But now, it only has 100-150 elephants. This is largely due to poaching and despite attempts of the park to save its elephants by developing anti-poaching laws, the problem is still there. Nonetheless, a herd of elephants in the wild is still something that is fascinating to see.

The best time to witness the wild animals is during the dry and warm season, which starts from August and ends in November. This season is perfect for safari and bird watching because the weather is bright and sunny and you will be able to see everything clearly. There are also rivers in the park where you can see large hippos cooling themselves under the heat of the sun.

December is the start of rainy season. You will see lush vegetation and wild African flowers like orchids until the month of July.

If you are planning to visit several places in the northern part of Malawi, you have to first go to Mzuzu. Mzuzu, Malawi is the turning-off point if you are planning to travel to different areas in the north of Malawi. This agricultural town has gasoline stations, pay phones, and money exchangers where you can fill your fuel tank tank, call, and change money. You have to do all the things that you need to do in Mzuzu, Malawi before starting your adventure to other less modern parts of northern Malawi.

You can buy your food from the town’s huge market. You can find ordinary market products in the Mzuzu market but you will not be able to find the fresh fruits that they sell in other places. You should take advantage of this and store enough fruits in your bag for your long trip.

The most popular thing to do in Mzuzu, Malawi is to eat at restaurants. Although you will have a hard time finding alcohol here, you will still like it because they serve great food—not just local food but also international dishes.

Since Mzuzu is like a stopover in the north, there are many nearby places that offer exciting activities and attractive sights to tourist. You can look and take pictures of the breathtaking natural views and wonders like lakes, mountains, sea, and so on. You can also go swimming in one of the nearby beaches or do water sports like scuba diving and sailing. And your African trip will not be complete if you have not experienced a safari or watching animals in the wild.

Malawi is one of the countries in Africa that tourists visit often. Why is this so?

It is because they have one of the most colorful cities in the world – Lilongwe.

Lilongwe is the capital of the beautiful country of Malawi. Despite being the center of commerce and trade, the people in the city never forget to take care of their rich culture and tradition. Evidently, they still have the bearings of the wonderful people who have settled in this area ages ago.

The city itself is a sight to behold. By walking around the streets, tourists will be able to witness the wonderful things that happen in the city, such as rituals and festivities that define the city and the country as well. Moreover, tourists will be able to take home with them a part of Lilongwe as souvenir shops and shopping centers have flourished in the area.

Moreover, the atmosphere in the city is very relaxing, and the traffic isn’t that heavy as opposed to what the tourists are used to seeing in the busy streets of their respective countries.

Tourists may opt to stay in the exquisite hotels in the city or roam around to settle in a camping site.

Lilongwe is definitely a pride of Malawi and of Africa as well.

There are many wonderful things that you can do in Malawi, and most of them are related to nature. You can go on a safari trip where you can see wild animals, go bird watching, swim at the beach, climb a mountain, go hiking, and so on. But before you do any of these, you need to prepare yourself by stocking your bag with food and first aid treatment, fill your gas tank, and other travel necessities. And one place where you can go shopping and get the services that you will need is in Salima, Malawi.

There is not much to see in Salima, Malawi, but you cannot help but pass through this place because it has a market full of products and the usual services that all travellers need.

One thing that Salima, Malawi is popular for is its nearness to Senga Bay. Senga Bay has several beaches that have crystal clear water. Although the beaches here are more crowded than other beaches in Malawi, you will still enjoy taking a dip in the cool water especially when the weather is hot.

There are many hotels, campsites, and lodges that line Senga Bay but the most popular are the Safari Beach lodge and Sunbird Livingstonia Beach. Both of these lodges are located in a very nice place. You can enjoy their superb meals while looking at a nice beach views. In Safari Beach Lodge, you will even have baboons watching you while you are eating breakfast. Be careful, though, or your food will end up as the baboons’ instant breakfast.

Although it has no great natural sights to offer, it has markets, hotels, restaurants, pubs, and shopping malls which every traveller misses at one point in their African trip.
