Taouyuan is also rich in history. By the time the Japanese occupation relinquished Taiwan to the ROC government, the country was divided into three areas namely the Hsinchu County, the Miaoli County and Taouyuan County. Taouyuan town was then designated as the capital of Taouyuan County.
