Florida, ranked 22nd largest state, is found in the southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Georgia to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Gulf of Mexico the west. It is nicknamed The Sunshine State because it enjoys a generally warm climate. The northern and central regions are subtropical while the southern portion of the state has a true tropical climate. The state capital is Tallahassee; the largest city is Jacksonville, while the largest metro area is Miami.

Florida has several natural and historical sites under control by either the National Park Service or the United States Forest Service. These include: the Big Cypress National Preserve, The Biscayne National Park, the Canaveral National Seashore, the Castillo de san Marcos National Monument, the De Soto National Memorial, the Dry Tortugas National Park, the Everglades National Park, the Fort Caroline National Memorial, the Fort Matanzas National Monument, the Gulf Islands National Seashore, the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve, the Apalachicola National Forest, the Choctwahatchee National Forest, the Ocala National Forest, and the Osceola National Forest.

Tourists may also want to visit a mysterious Coral Castle in the city of Homestead. This strange stone castle was single-handedly built by Edward Leedskalnin, an eccentric who claimed to have found the secret by which the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids using only primitive tools.
