Hong Kong Disneyland is the fifth Disneyland theme park in the world. It opened in 2005 and is the smallest of all Disney parks. The part consists of seven theme areas- Main Street USA, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Grizzly Gulch, Mystic Point and Toy Story Land. Set on 55 acres, the park was the 14th most visited theme park in the world in 2012, with 6.7 million visitors.

Location

Hong Kong Disneyland is located in a scenic coastal area with a mountain backdrop at Penny’s Bay just off the North Lantau Highway on Lantau Island. It is just two stations away from Ngong Ping 360. You can reach Disneyland via Disney resort line, car, taxi, public bus or coach.

History

Hong Kong Disneyland is a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company & the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is the eleventh theme park by the Walt Disney Company, and its fifth theme park resort worldwide. The construction of this amusement park started in 2003, and the total project cost was around $3.5 billion. The theme park was opened in September, 2005.

Park layout

The park is divided in to seven theme zones. The Disneyland railroad circles the perimeter of the park and landscaping features many varieties of trees, shrubs and flowers to create the lush scenery.

A journey into Hong Kong Disneyland begins with “Main Street USA.” This section takes you back in time to the early twentieth century America. The area is comprised of old fashioned buildings, dim gas lamps, antique taxicabs and a paddy wagon. There are several snack bars, the Market House Bakery, the Main Street Corner Café, Emporium, jewelry shops and photo art. Other attractions include Turtle Talk with Crush, the Muppet Mobile Lab and an Animation Academy.

Adventureland is a jungle-themed island that is surrounded by the Jungle River ride. Here visitors can enjoy a jungle-themed boat cruise full of unexpected surprises with animatronics. This part of the park is also home to the “Festival of the Lion King” show.

Fantasyland is a fairytale wonderland, which is filled with attractions like the Many adventures of Winnie The Pooh,” “Dumbo- The Flying Elephant,” “Sleeping Beauty’s Castle,” “The Golden Mickeys,” “Cinderella’s Carousel” and many more.

Tomorrowland features several amazing rides including the Space Mountain indoor dark roller coaster, Orbitron, Stitch Encounter, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, UFO Zone and Autopia.

Toy Land is the new attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland. Here, the visitors feel like they have been shrunk to the size of the toys and get the opportunity to explore and play with Toy Story characters.

The evening is not complete without seeing the splendid fireworks display. The night time lighting around Hong Kong Theme park is also one of the most dramatic and ambitious of any Disney theme park. The park features daytime parade, several shows and seasonal entertainment during Halloween, Christmas and the Chinese New year. In addition, there are specialty souvenir stores selling Disney memorabilia and souvenirs in each themed land.

Hours & Shows

The park is open weekdays from 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM and weekends from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The fireworks shows are nightly at 8:00 PM by the Sleeping Beauty Castle. Parades are at 3:30 PM during weekdays and at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM on the weekends.
