Queen Sirikit National Convention Center

Queen Sirikit National Convention Center is an exhibit building and a convention hall located in Bangkok, Thailand. It has been managed by a private company since it was opened back in 1991. Yet, it is still regarded as a “public asset” according to the Treasury Department of the Thai Ministry of Finance. This convention center was built in order to host events and international meetings. Queen Sirikit National Convention Center’s structure is also home to the Plenary Hall, which is a theater that can house about 6,000 guests. It is a remarkable building which has hosted numerous events and exhibitions.

History


Each year, the Board from the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund meet at the center. During 1987, it was decided that the annual meeting for this event would be held in Bangkok in 1991. The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center was built as a sign of Bangkok’s commitment to hold this event. A top Thai architectural firm was commissioned to built the structure and construction commenced in late 1989. The center was completed two months ahead of schedule and managed to be under budget.

Facilities


The structure is located in the center of Bangkok’s business district and can be found on Ratchadapisek Road. The center has nearly 700,000 square feet of floor space. Over 375,000 square feet of the space is dedicated to office areas which can accommodate hundreds of booths for events. There are also meeting halls and seminar areas that can hold up to 600 guests. The center is also open for balls, banquets and other similar events. The total floor area for the exhibit hall is about 215,000 square feet.
