Lumpini Park

Lumpini Park is a park located in the middle of Bangkok. Unlike the rest of Bangkok, this park is known for its greenery and tranquility. The park itself is over 140 acres in size.

History

Lumpini Park dates back to the 1920’s. It was named after the birthplace of Buddha. The area was originally designed to be an exhibition center for craft and flower displays. Unfortunately, this vision was never realized. Instead, the park became a place for Bangkok residents to engage in outdoor activities.

Who Should Visit

People of all ages will enjoy this park. Older people tend to use the space to practice Tai Chi or go on walks. Many couples also visit the park to lounge by the lake. Some of the activities and facilities enjoyed by adults and children at the park include picnicking, exercising at the gym, rowing and riding in paddleboats.

Other Information

Anyone who is visiting the park needs to be aware that it is home to numerous animals and insects. One of the more alarming residents of the park is the monitor lizard, a species that can grow up to over eight feet in length. Although the size of these creatures can be intimidating, they are generally harmless.

As the park is located in the heart of the city, it is close to public transport lines and food markets. Tourists will find numerous restaurants and street vendors around the park. Those that do not want to eat in the area can simply hop into a cab and go elsewhere. It is worth noting that the park is close to a number of hotels. People who are considering staying in one of these establishments should look into how far away it is from other sights and attractions. Researching the hotel beforehand could save consumers a lot of money in taxi fares.
